Rang De Basanti Vs Lage Raho Munnabhai

During my recent net ambling I was prompted for a vote...

Which Indian movie for Oscars?
a) Range De Basanti
b) Lage Raho Munnabhai

This question isn't as simple as it seems. If read between lines it has more meaning than just choosing a deserving movie for Oscars.

Analysis:
The two movies represent completely different ideologies on which the war for Independent India was fought, Non-Violence and Revolution, lead by equally inspired fighters. Rang De Basanti (RDB) is based on the revolutionaries and their philosophy being applied to the problems that India currently faces. On the other hand Lage Raho Munnabhai (LRM) is based on non-violence, preached by Mahatma, which was one of the greatest tools in the war for independence and it's importance in the present India. So choosing between either of the film is in a way alingning to either of the ideology.
Both movies were brilliant in story, narration and direction. I believe they stand equal chance in the Oscars. The difficult part is choosing one. I believe a greater thinking needs to go into choosing the movie as we would be sending a message to the world and the youth of the ideology that best suits India.

My Two Cents:
I feel RDB best captures the turmoil/wrath of youth towards pressing issues like unemployement, corruption, poverty, governance etc. The frustration of youth is palpable in the movie which is rare entity in the bollywood movies. The movie also makes every Indian dwell about the state of affairs of the Independent India. It's apt.

LRM also deals with a tested scheme of dealing with problems. But I believe in principles only if they are convenient to stand by and non-violence is something that can't be practised and will not work in the current scenario. Even if it works for the current scenario it will need lot of patience and dedication but who has the time for that?

Conclusion:
Let the best deserving movie get to Oscars.

PS: Much ado about nothing or I have ample free time at my disposal.
